Martyn's Law and Lockdown
Martyn's Law
Martyn's Law, officially known as the Terrorism (Protection of
Premises) Act 2025, aims to enhance public safety by requiring
certain premises and events to implement measures against potential terrorist attacks.
Key Provisions
-
Tiered Approach: The law establishes a tiered system based on the expected number of individuals present at a venue
or event. -
Standard Duty Premises: For venues expecting between 200 to 799 individuals, the requirements focus on simple, low-cost activities to enhance safety, such as locking doors and identifying safe routes.
-
Enhanced Duty Premises: For venues expecting 800 or more individuals, additional measures are required, including implementing public protection measures like bag searches and CCTV.
-
Implementation Timeline: There will be a 24-month implementation period before the law comes into force, allowing responsible parties to prepare and understand
their obligations. -
Regulatory Oversight: The Security Industry Authority (SIA) will act as the regulator, providing guidance and ensuring compliance with the law's requirements.
Alertex
-
The ALERTEX Lockdown system is a wireless critical alert system, designed to give a clear alert in the event of an activation. Lockdown units are visually and audibly distinct from fire alert units to minimise disruption and confusion. Lockdown units comply with current guidelines from NaCTSO, which state that ‘the activation of the fire alarm to initiate evacuation should be avoided to reduce the possibility of an incorrect response’.
-
Lockdown units can enunciate a bespoke lockdown message that can be fully customised at the time of ordering. Alternatively, units can be ordered with a sounder that has 32 different alert sounds to choose from. Either variant is paired with a visual flashing beacon light.
